أَقْسَط
This verse teaches us a simple rule of justice for adopted children.
ٱدۡعُوهُمۡ لِأٓبَآئِهِمۡ هُوَ أَقۡسَطُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ
Call them by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allah.
Quran, Al-Ahzab 33:5
The verse instructs to call adopted children by the name of their biological father. This is presented as more just before Allah. The previous verse reminds that Allah has not made adopted sons as real sons. The following verse confirms that blood ties have special importance. This rule protects the child's identity and clarifies family relationships. It avoids confusion and respects the truth. In our lives, we can apply this principle by valuing each person's real identity without erasing their origins.
Today, if you know an adopted child, use their original family name or speak of them respectfully while acknowledging their real ties.
