The speech that protects

This verse invites us to choose decent words, even in delicate situations.

وَقُلۡنَ قَوۡلٗا مَّعۡرُوفٗا

And speak with appropriate speech.

Quran, Al-Ahzab 33:32

In this verse, Allah addresses the wives of the Prophet ﷺ. He asks them to avoid any softness in speech that might awaken ill intentions. He commands them instead to speak with decency and restraint. Though specific, this teaching sets a universal principle: the quality of our speech influences hearts.

In daily life, we can apply this by choosing respectful and measured words, especially with people who might misinterpret our tone. A gentle but firm speech, without ambiguity, protects our dignity and that of others.

Today, before speaking, ask yourself: 'Are my words decent and unambiguous?' Then give a clear and respectful answer to someone expecting a reaction from you.
