إِيذَاء
This verse warns us against hurting believers without reason.
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡذُونَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِ بِغَيۡرِ مَا ٱكۡتَسَبُواْ فَقَدِ ٱحۡتَمَلُواْ بُهۡتَٰنٗا وَإِثۡمٗا مُّبِينٗا
And those who harm believing men and believing women for [something] other than what they have earned have certainly born upon themselves a slander and manifest sin.
Quran, Al-Ahzab 33:58
The verse associates harming believers with slander and a clear sin. It does not speak of retaliation, but of an unmerited offense. The immediate context mentions those who offend Allah and His Messenger, then extends the gravity to any harm against believers. In our daily lives, a hurtful word, mockery, or baseless accusation can fall into this category. Before speaking, we can ask ourselves if our words are true and useful.
Today, before making a remark about someone, ask yourself if it is true and useful. If not, choose to remain silent.
