حَسْرَة
This verse invites us not to let regret consume us over those who persist in error.
فَلَا تَذۡهَبۡ نَفۡسُكَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَسَرَٰتٍ
So do not let yourself perish over them in regret.
Quran, Faatir 35:8
The verse speaks of one whose evil deed is made attractive to him, so he sees it as good. Allah sends astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. The Prophet ﷺ is here comforted: he should not waste away in grief for them. Allah knows perfectly what they do. We too may feel sad about loved ones who persist in error. But our role is not to force them to be guided. We leave their affair to Allah and continue to do good around us.
Today, if someone you know persists in error, say inwardly: 'Allah knows what he does,' then perform a good deed for yourself.
