تَزْكِيَة
This verse reminds us that spiritual purification is a personal act that benefits us first.
وَمَن تَزَكَّىٰ فَإِنَّمَا يَتَزَكَّىٰ لِنَفۡسِهِۦۚ
And whoever purifies himself only purifies himself for [the benefit of] his soul.
Quran, Faatir 35:18
In this verse, Allah states that each person bears their own sins: no one can carry another's burden, even a close relative. He then clarifies that whoever purifies themselves does so for their own good. Tazkiyah means purifying oneself from faults and cultivating what is good. In daily life, we sometimes seek recognition from others. But this verse invites us to act for our own heart, without expecting immediate reward. Purifying ourselves gives us inner peace and clarity.
Today, take two minutes to reflect on a bad habit you would like to purify, and decide on one small concrete step toward it.
