صَبْر
This verse calls for patience in the face of words and reminds us of David.
ٱصۡبِرۡ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱذۡكُرۡ عَبۡدَنَا دَاوُۥدَ ذَا ٱلۡأَيۡدِۖ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ
Be patient over what they say and remember Our servant, David, the possessor of strength; indeed, he was one who repeatedly turned back [to Allah].
Quran, Saad 38:17
The verse commands to endure what people say, without specifying the nature of these words. It associates this patience with the remembrance of David, a servant of Allah described as possessing strength and repeatedly turning back to Him. In our daily lives, we may encounter difficult words. This verse encourages us to remain patient and turn to Allah, as David did.
Today, if someone says something hard to hear, take a breath and say inwardly: 'I am patient and I turn back to Allah.'
