Judge with fairness, without exceeding limits

This verse teaches us how to administer justice with uprightness.

فَٱحۡكُم بَيۡنَنَا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَا تُشۡطِطۡ وَٱهۡدِنَآ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ

So judge between us with truth, and do not exceed [it], and guide us to the sound path.

Quran, Saad 38:22

In this scene, two men come to Prophet David to settle their dispute. They ask him three things: to judge with truth, not to exceed limits, and to guide them to the right path. These requests show what good justice entails: it must be fair, measured, and oriented towards good.

In our daily lives, we often mediate conflicts, whether in family, among friends, or at work. This verse invites us to be just, avoid excess, and seek to guide others towards what is good.

Today, if you have to arbitrate a small dispute, take a moment to listen to both sides and propose a fair solution, without favoritism.
