Be Among the First to Submit

This verse invites us to be sincere in our submission to Allah.

وَأُمِرۡتُ لِأَنۡ أَكُونَ أَوَّلَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِينَ

And I have been commanded to be the first [among you] of the Muslims.

Quran, Az-Zumar 39:12

In this verse, Allah reports the command given to His Prophet: to be the first to submit. This means that submission to Allah must be sincere and complete, without hesitation. The previous verse speaks of worshiping Allah with exclusive devotion. Here, the command is to be the first to do so.

For us, this encourages us to be among those who submit quickly and sincerely. We can strive to be true Muslims by putting Allah first in our daily choices.

Today, before an action, ask yourself: 'Am I doing this for Allah?' and act accordingly.
