صَبْر
This verse calls for patience, forgiveness, and glorification of Allah.
So be patient, [O Muhammad]. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And ask forgiveness for your sin and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord in the evening and the morning.
Quran, Ghafir 40:55
The verse addresses the Prophet ﷺ, but its teaching is universal. It combines three actions: being patient, asking forgiveness, and glorifying Allah. Patience is linked to the certainty that Allah's promise is true. The previous verse mentions that the Quran is guidance and a reminder for people of understanding, placing this exhortation in a context of guidance. In daily life, we can apply these counsels. When facing difficulty, we can remind ourselves that Allah's promise is certain. We can also take a moment to ask for forgiveness and glorify our Lord, in the morning and evening.
Today, morning and evening, say: 'My Lord, forgive me' and 'Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him'.
