كِبْر
This verse warns us against pride that leads to arguing without proof.
They have nothing in their breasts except pride, which they will never attain. So seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Seeing.
Quran, Ghafir 40:56
The verse describes people who argue about Allah's signs without any proof. Their attitude stems from pride, which prevents them from accepting the truth. This pride will not benefit them, for they will not attain their goal. In response, Allah commands us to seek refuge in Him. Pride can push us to defend our opinions arrogantly, even when we are wrong. Turning to Allah helps us remain humble and recognize our limits.
Today, before arguing, take a second to ask yourself if you are seeking truth or just wanting to be right. If you feel pride, say inwardly: 'I seek refuge with Allah from pride.'
