Repel Evil with What is Better

This verse invites us to a reaction that transforms relationships.

ٱدۡفَعۡ بِٱلَّتِي هِيَ أَحۡسَنُ

Repel (evil) by that which is better.

Quran, Fussilat 41:34

The verse first states that the good deed and the bad are not equal. Then it commands to repel evil with what is better. It is not about ignoring the offense, but about responding with good. The next verse clarifies that this attitude requires patience and a great share of goodness.

In daily life, this could be responding to an insult with a kind word, or to an injustice with a fair action. This self-control can defuse enmity and create unexpected bonds.
