الْمَوَدَّةَ
This verse invites us to act out of sincere affection, without expecting anything in return.
قُل لَّآ أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ أَجۡرًا إِلَّا ٱلۡمَوَدَّةَ فِي ٱلۡقُرۡبَىٰ
Say, 'I do not ask you for this message any payment [but] only good will through kinship.'
Quran, Ash-Shura 42:23
In this verse, Allah gives good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds. The Prophet ﷺ is told to say that he asks no reward for conveying the message, only affection (al-mawadda) towards relatives. This shows that love and kindness are essential values. Today, we can apply this by doing good deeds out of love for Allah and for others, without seeking material reward. Sincere affection is a form of generosity of the heart.
Today, do a good deed for a relative, simply out of affection, without expecting anything in return.
