Equality is not justice

This verse corrects a misconception about Allah's justice.

أَمۡ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱجۡتَرَحُواْ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ أَن نَّجۡعَلَهُمۡ كَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَٰتِ سَوَآءٗ مَّحۡيَاهُمۡ وَمَمَاتُهُمۡۚ سَآءَ مَا يَحۡكُمُونَ

Or do those who commit evils think We will make them like those who have believed and done righteous deeds - [make them] equal in their life and their death? Evil is that which they judge.

Quran, Al-Jaathiya 45:21

Allah asks a rhetorical question: would the evildoers be equal to the believers who do good? The answer is no. The next verse confirms that Allah created the heavens and earth in truth, to recompense every soul for what it has earned, without injustice.

In our daily lives, we might sometimes think everyone is the same. But this verse reminds us that our actions matter and that Allah, in His justice, does not confuse good and evil.

Today, perform a sincere good deed, even a small one, and remember that Allah sees the difference.
