عَدَمُ السُّخْرِيَة
This verse calls us to never mock others, for they may be better than us.
لَا يَسۡخَرۡ قَوۡمٞ مِّن قَوۡمٍ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونُواْ خَيۡرٗا مِّنۡهُمۡ
Let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them.
Quran, Al-Hujuraat 49:11
In this verse, Allah forbids believers from mocking others. The reason is profound: a person's worth is not measured by appearance, wealth, or origin. The one we laugh at may be closer to Allah than we are. Mockery hurts and divides. It may seem harmless, but it contradicts the brotherhood mentioned in the previous verse. Today, we can choose to see the good in others and respect them.
Today, if a mocking thought comes to mind, replace it with a positive thought about that person, or with kind silence.
