This verse invites us to look at the worldly life with lucidity.
Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children.
Quran, Al-Hadid 57:20
This verse describes the worldly life as play and amusement, adornment and pride, a race for wealth and children. It compares it to rain that brings forth flourishing vegetation, then dries up and becomes debris. Thus, everything that glitters here is ephemeral. The following verse directs us to what truly matters: seeking Allah's forgiveness and Paradise. Let us not be deceived by fleeting pleasures. Let us remember that the real abode is the Hereafter.
Today, take a moment to thank Allah for a blessing you have, remembering that it is temporary.
