This verse condemns stinginess and reminds us that Allah is Self-Sufficient.
Those who are stingy and enjoin upon people stinginess. And whoever turns away - then indeed, Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.
Quran, Al-Hadid 57:24
Verse 57:24 blames those who are stingy and encourage others to be stingy. It links stinginess with turning away: whoever turns away should know that Allah needs nothing. Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy. In our daily lives, we may be tempted to hold back what we have, or even advise others not to give. This verse invites us to reflect: our generosity does not diminish Allah, and our stinginess does not enrich Him. It is we who need Him.
Today, give something simple (a smile, help, a meal) without expecting anything in return, remembering that Allah is Self-Sufficient.
