مُدَاهَنَة
This verse warns us against compromising our principles to please others.
وَدُّواْ لَوۡ تُدۡهِنُ فَيُدۡهِنُونَ
They wish that you would soften [in your position], so they would soften [toward you].
Quran, Al-Qalam 68:9
In this verse, Allah describes the attitude of those who reject the truth: they wish you would give in on your principles, so that they might be more accommodating in return. This is a form of social pressure that pushes one to soften one's stance out of fear of conflict or desire for acceptance. In our daily lives, we may be tempted to silence our convictions to avoid criticism or to be liked. But sincerity towards Allah means remaining firm on what matters, with gentleness and wisdom, without seeking to please at all costs.
Today, identify a situation where you tend to compromise an important value, and decide to stand firm with kindness.
