مِسْكِين
This verse reports the decision of some garden owners to refuse access to the poor.
أَن لَّا يَدۡخُلَنَّهَا ٱلۡيَوۡمَ عَلَيۡكُم مِّسۡكِينٞ
“No poor person shall enter it today.”
Quran, Al-Qalam 68:24
In the previous verse, these people confer in low voices. Here, their intention is clear: to prevent any poor person from entering their garden. The next verse shows their determination to carry out this plan. The Quran thus describes an attitude of exclusion. This scene prompts us to reflect: how do we welcome those who have less than us? The verse does not give a direct command, but it highlights a behavior we can avoid. Today, we can choose to open our hand and our heart.
Today, identify someone in need and share with them something, even modest, welcoming them with respect.
