Give Without Expecting Return

This verse invites us to purify our intentions when we give.

وَلَا تَمۡنُن تَسۡتَكۡثِرُ

And do not confer favor to acquire more.

Quran, Al-Muddaththir 74:6

In this passage, Allah commands the Prophet ﷺ not to do a favor expecting something in return. The word 'mann' refers to a gift accompanied by expectation of reward. The next verse reminds us to be patient for our Lord, showing that our hope should be directed towards Him.

In our daily lives, we can easily help while expecting a thank you or a favor in return. This verse invites us to give sincerely, without calculation. Today, let's seek to do a good deed discreetly, expecting nothing from others.
