خَشْيَة
This verse links the fear of Allah to the mastery of one's desires.
وَأَمَّا مَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفۡسَ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰ
But as for he who feared the position of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination
Quran, An-Naazi'aat 79:40
Verse 79:40 describes two linked attitudes: fearing to stand before Allah and restraining the soul from its desires. These two actions are combined as one condition. The following verse (79:41) states that Paradise will be the refuge for those who do so. In our daily lives, this fear can help us make more conscious choices. For example, before giving in to a whim, we can remember that we are accountable for our actions. This is not about feeling guilty, but about acting with awareness.
Today, before giving in to a desire, take a minute to remember that you are before Allah and choose the action that brings you closer to Him.
