تَزَكَّى
This verse invites us to welcome every person with the hope that they seek purification.
لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
Perhaps he might be purified?
Quran, Abasa 80:3
In this passage, the Quran mentions a blind man who comes to the Prophet ﷺ. The following verse says he might also be reminded and the reminder would benefit him. Thus, the text associates two possibilities: purification and remembrance. It does not present them as cause and effect, but as two potential benefits. For us, this means that every person who approaches us may be seeking good. We do not know what they are looking for. So we can welcome them with kindness and hope that they progress spiritually.
Today, when someone approaches you, take a moment to think: perhaps they seek purification. Welcome them with a smile and attentive listening.
