عَدَمُ طَلَبِ الْجَزَاءِ
This verse describes a precious quality: giving without expecting anything from creatures.
وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعۡمَةٖ تُجۡزَىٰٓ
And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded
Quran, Al-Lail 92:19
Verse 19 of Surah Al-Lail speaks of the one who gives his wealth to purify himself (verse 18). It clarifies that this person does not act to receive a favor in return from anyone. His giving is not a self-interested exchange. The following verse (20) completes: his intention is solely to seek the Face of his Lord, the Most High. Thus, the purity of giving comes from intention: giving for Allah, without expecting reward from any creature.
Today, make a discreet donation (time, money, help) to someone without telling them and without expecting anything in return, keeping your intention for Allah.
