ابْتِغَاءُ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ
This verse invites us to purify our intentions by seeking only Allah's pleasure.
إِلَّا ٱبۡتِغَآءَ وَجۡهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ
But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High.
Quran, Al-Lail 92:20
In this passage, Allah describes a person who gives without expecting anything in return, neither thanks nor reward. Their only motivation is to seek the Face of their Lord, meaning His pleasure. The following verse promises that such a person will be satisfied. In our daily lives, we can ask ourselves: why do we act? To be seen, to be thanked, or to please Allah? Purifying our intention can help us lighten our actions and make them more sincere.
Before an action today, ask yourself: 'Am I doing this for Allah?' Then do it with that intention.
