الذِّكْرُ
This verse invites us to a double movement: to remember Allah and to be grateful to Him.
فَٱذۡكُرُونِيٓ أَذۡكُرۡكُمۡ وَٱشۡكُرُواْ لِي وَلَا تَكۡفُرُونِ
So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.
Quran, Al-Baqara 2:152
In this verse, Allah combines remembrance (adh-dhikr) and gratitude (ash-shukr). He asks us to remember Him, and in return, He promises to remember us. Then He commands us to thank Him and not to be ungrateful. The previous verse reminds us of the sending of a messenger who teaches us, and the following one encourages us to seek help through patience and prayer. In daily life, we can practice adh-dhikr by saying simple phrases like 'Alhamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah) or 'SubhanAllah' (Glory be to Allah). This helps us stay aware of His presence and cultivate gratitude.
Today, take a minute to say 'Alhamdulillah' sincerely, thinking of a specific blessing in your life.
